The RESULTS Project

The Fine Fund created The RESULTS Project to showcase the work of nonprofits that are making a difference in toxics reduction. The RESULTS Project tells the stories of the successes they have – and are – achieving.

The RESULTS PROJECT Vision

The RESULTS Project reports on the success being achieved by nonprofit organizations, in reducing the use of toxic chemicals and creating the pathways to safer alternatives. We present a growing showcase of projects of nonprofit organizations that are producing measurable and significant results. Today, the funding for this work is a small fraction of funding for environmental causes.  Our goal is to double the funding for nonprofit work in toxics reduction within the next five years.  By making their impact more visible and understandable, we hope to inspire the funding community to increase its investment in this important mission.

Tell Your Story on the RESULTS Project – How We Work With Nonprofit Organizations

We invite outstanding nonprofit organizations in the field of toxics reduction to participate in The RESULTS Project by sharing stories of their achievements on this website.  Any nonprofit working in the field can apply to share their story.  Those who respond to our request are asked to describe the results of their work – the impact that they have made in reducing the adverse effects of toxic chemicals on people and the planet.

Every three months we review applications (deadlines and a link to the application are noted elsewhere on the website).  We group the applications into three phases of activity that have different types of results, and different needs for funding and support:

1.     The first group of respondents has completed campaigns that have produced significant, measurable change – such as the reduction of a particular chemical, or the passage of a regulation to ban a chemical.  In these cases, we often see organizations that have developed unique methods or have created a community of participation around their work.  The opportunity here is to help such organizations grow beyond their strong established base.

2.     Another group of respondents have programs underway, where the prospect of meaningful change is already becoming clear through the achievement of intermediate milestones.  For these efforts, the challenge often is to scale up pilot programs to increase impact.

3.     Still others involve very strong concepts for programs just beginning. These provide early-stage opportunities for funding and building of support, similar to angel investing in the for-profit sector.

The RESULTS Project website is organized so that visitors can easily find these different types of efforts and learn more about the organizations behind them.  There are links to each organization’s website, to make it easy to learn more.

The RESULTS Project is ongoing. Organizations who have not yet participated are welcome to submit their information to us at any time.

Communication Enabling In Kind Professional Services Awards

We are also making available a limited number of Communication Enabling In Kind Professional Services Awards each year to selected participants in The RESULTS Project. These awards provide professional communications coaching and outreach capacity to assist recipients in better communicating the results of their work. An award enables the professional promotion of the awardee’s work on The RESULTS Project website, and participation in additional promotional opportunities sponsored by The RESULTS Project. Professional resources to provide these services are provided by The RESULTS Project.

Research on Toxics Reduction Results

The Fine Fund is also sponsoring an ongoing project to measure and describe the impact of work in the field of toxics reduction.  We are establishing a baseline of past and current efforts, working with The RESULTS Project participants as well as drawing upon published materials.  We will be reporting our findings via The RESULTS Project website and blog.
